高性能計算(High Performance Computing,以下簡稱HPC),即超算中心HPC市場正在朝著使用異質計算系統和提高能效比的方向發展:GPU、DSP和ARM處理器同時運行,以實現用更少的能耗帶來更高的Petaflop(1千萬億次浮點計算/秒)值。IDC預測,HPC服務器市場要實現在2017年達到150億美元銷售額的目標,每年的增速就必須要保持在7.3%左右。超級計算(Supercomputing)的應用范圍非常廣泛,包括汽車制造模擬、天氣預報、分子生物學研究、地球物理學等,在這些領域中往往需要并行計算和處理大量的數據、進行復雜的運算。最近經常被討論的大數據分析,也會用到超級計算。
